What's in Mari's Shopping Basket - 1/31

These striped mid-rise jeans are too cool. My mind is reeling with possibilities.

Étoile Isabel Marant
You can find these on net-a-porter.

The Perfect Orange

Must get a hold of this Celine-inspired silk blouse by Zara. It has an uneven, transparent hem at the collar and just the right draping effect. (I have a feeling I'll need to stalk various stores around the city in order to increase my odds.)

Stole My Heart

For as much crap I gave Prada's spring collection back in September, I would totally rock that fur stole.

Vogue's Ten Best Dressed Choice - 1/24

Yesterday I spent 3 hours at Apple's Genius Bar after spilling coffee all over my laptop. A stressful day indeed. While it's being repaired, I'm borrowing my boyfriend's. But it's not the same. I miss my bookmarks, my filed photos, my lists...

Feeling this comfortable look on Kate Bosworth. I would have worn denim separates, but I guess the Mulberry dress is cute too.

Outside My Windows

It never gets old - how wonderful it is to live in New York City.

Cannot wait for Lincoln Center Fashion Week!

Playground

The spring collections, in all of their color-blocking/rainbow/citrus glory, are all about picking what bright works best for you.

Case in point, Miu Miu.

Lee for Versace

This Versace dress is STUNNING. I would kill for this.

I've had so much fun compiling my spring/summer top 20 list. Can't wait to share it with you!

20.01.

I always catch people checking out this lucite ring. I had a lot of fun wearing it over the last 8 months (large cocktail rings in general cause me to sip more cocktails - funny how that happens), but I'm retiring it to the back of my closet for the season and hopefully replacing its presence with some equally attention-grabbing accessories.

What's in Mari's Shopping Basket - 1/19

Reed Krakoff canvas Oxfords
I hardly ever wear flats because I never find a pair that I like. So it's no surprise that the first time I find Oxfords to be semi-acceptable, they have a heel. I always thought Oxfords were kind of a model-only thing. They shorten legs because of where the shoe cuts off at the ankle. However, since this pair has a small heel and the canvas material comes in a light grey (friendly to paler legs), I'm rethinking my boycott. These would wear perfect downtown or in East Hampton. Not to mention they are are Reed Krakoff - that doesn't hurt either.

Coming on Strong

Instead of sharing a photo of my vote for Vogue's best dressed Golden Globes edition (Olivia Wilde), below are a few shots from Kristen Stewart's February cover story. The styling conveys a modern salute to 40's America to me. Proenza Schouler suits Stewart, she's very aware of it, and so is the team at Vogue.

I need that aquatic-colored T!

17.01.

Spent the afternoon stuffing myself with angus sliders!.. at one of my favorite places. My boyfriend told me my fur looked like a dog was perched on my armchair. He doesn't always understand fashion ;p

Party of 4

Suffice it to say, with all of the cooking and color going on in our apartment, yesterday didn't feel like winter at all. Had a small dinner party with friends. The vibrant produce really reminded me of the season's collections. A few pre-dinner photos below.

Hope you are enjoying your weekend wherever you may be -Mari

Long Last

It can take years to find a lipstick shade to match your complexion, but everyone should take the time to do it. I've seen many women with red that looks awful and does nothing for their face. I have different reds for when my skin is sun-kissed (Nars lipstick in Flamenco) or in its naturally fair state (which is most of the time since I wear SPF religiously). I received a few emails asking about the lipstick I was wearing earlier this week: Clinique Long Last in Party Red.

Office Savvy

While some women are given a bit more leeway with their work wardrobe, others cannot be as visually daring and must adhere to a strict code of dress. Thanks to the spring collections though, we need not sacrifice style. Head to toe monotone color is always a great way to avoid a corporate eyesore, but mixed neutrals are also a safe bet.

Peachy-Keen

via  net-a-porter's online magazine - "A Privileged Life" editorial

I was browsing and found a beautiful polka-dot silk crepe de Chine blouse by Miu Miu carried by net-a-porter. But it is sold out! The one in green as well. What's a girl to do...

Heading out for some yummy warm Scandinavian food and lingonberry soda.

The Perennial Bag

Long gone are the days of the "it" bag craze, though I never bought into "it" anyway. I'm not the biggest cultivator of Vuitton: I don't entirely identify with the Louis aesthetic - which is not to say that it's not a lovely one. However, this shoulder bag is an oldie but goodie. It has the ideal running around town, nothing to weigh me down size. It is the perfect complement to colorful summer nights and can be worn equally well with winter whites. (I promise that was not an intentional rhyme). Now that is a sartorial "it" I can get behind.
