Red Lady

Rushing out the door to pick up my red asymmetrical dress from the dry cleaners! I already hear music, sound tests, horns, and festivities beginning in the streets. Nothing but good wishes from NYC to all of my readers around the globe.
See you dolls in 2011!

In My Closet: Jardin des Metamorphoses

The silk threads create a color somewhere between pink meets orange meets red. There is a herd of horses that morph in a tree, as well as other animals, garden arches, and natural elements hiding throughout. I can't stop staring at it.

Care of My Love

What's that peaking through the branches? Take a closer look. Can you tell already?

There are collectors for just about anything. I collect Hermes scarves. They are stories to be told, my dears.
Whenever I'm in a major city, I stop by the Hermes boutique and take a peek at what they have to offer, and I buy a limited edition print unique to that city (or perhaps, even that season and city). Many a Hermes scarf already have a story in the print, the longer you look at it, the more you find. But whenever I wear that scarf, I remember the moment I bought it, where I was, who I was with, and my experience in that city as a whole. It's a fun and romantic gift to me from me.
However, this year, a new tradition was born: my boyfriend gave me a scarf for Christmas. The print and the colors are stunning; He knows what I like. But the best part of opening my gift was his story behind buying it, which I guess was a gift in and of itself.

I'll show you what's inside the box later..

The Blizzard

Woke up to 2 feet of snow in NYC! I'm so lucky to be in my apartment safe and sound - many people are stranded in cars and buses all over the state. This all probably sounds silly to my readers in Europe, who experience this kind of weather all the time, but here it's a big deal! After spending twenty minutes searching for a Starbucks that is open, I went home and made the doorman a pot of coffee, grapefruit juice and a big spread - he's been stuck here since yesterday. I'm reading The Economist and listening to the news. I'm also making my seasonal big-ticket item list, which will eventually need to be narrowed down of course. I'll reveal the accessories, clothing, and designers that make the cut as we approach spring. Anyone else experience the storm?

Great Escapes in Mind

A big hello from the slopes of Austria. I'm already returning to the US next week for the new year, but I wanted to wish those who celebrate, a Merry Christmas. I've been waking up to fantastic morning powder (the early bird catches the best runs) and fantastic Schokolade. Spent lots of my time just sitting in my family's chalet, warming my back against the Kacheloffen in the living room; and also lots of time warming my throat at the ski bar on the piste in between runs. You are guaranteed to strike up a hilarious conversation with a Russian, Italian, Croatian or two over hot drinks. I can't wait to share some of the newest additions to my closet c/o Christmas. Right now though, I'm on a train to Salzburg (finally, WiFi!). I'm leaving you with a few shots from my iphone. See you in New York.

Viele Küsse, Mari

Pret

A new Pret A Manger opened on my block. Have been watching them renovate for weeks! Now I can make regular soup runs when the weather starts to get really bad = makes NYC winter life that much easier. My dear boyfriend gave me an early Christmas present last night. And it's absolutely beautiful.
Can't wait to share with you. xx Mari

A Day for Fair Isle

20℉ means I pulled my old Marc Jacobs fair isle sweater from storage. The tiny ruffle shoulder details make it so fabulously fairy tale. Packing my weekender and I think this should make it into the bag. Every year I forget how the NYC wind will creep up the warmest of garments, going to look for a mid calf-length coat. Do they ever go out of style? Who cares.

Cinematic

With dark brows Daria Werbowy looked almost unrecognizable to me in the January issue of US Vogue. Lovely shoot.

Après-ski

My ski clothes are German and Swiss, my skiing equipment, Austrian (Fischer), but I'm due for a new après-ski ensemble... French, perhaps? I came across these goose down jackets by Moncler whilst salivating on Département Féminin: one, is a shiny black, the other, a less flashy gray flannel. And the selling point: they are machine washable. Yes, machine washable winter outerwear.

Got My Fur to Keep Me Warm

Switching it up today, working from the desktop. Got my fur to keep me warm and lots of coffee runs ahead of me. I've been neglecting one of my businesses a bit, so I'll be playing catch-up all weekend. I'll try to make some posts along the way.
Bis bald,

We Are All Afflicted

I'm pretty certain that I am not the only one flipping through the Pre-Fall look books that are sporadically making their way to the Internet. Though my heart begins to race seeing what next August has to offer (what am I, ill?), I need to return to the present, or at least stick to brainstorming about spring. Maybe the community should focus on renaming Pre-Fall first - before we all begin styling with "it".

Two very different but equally pleasant takes:
